With its highly diversified business profile, Copenhagen is a centre of growth and development for the entire country. Diversity is important to keep the city attractive to businesses and to the workforce that lives here. The major economic sectors are biotechnology, medico/health related industries and IT & communication. The IT & communication sector in particular is showing strong growth in Copenhagen, not only in the sheer number of companies but also in terms of annual turnover.

Copenhagen also has a lot of transport and logistics business due to its central location in the Baltic Region and the excellence of its infrastructure. With the opening of the Øresund Bridge to Sweden in 2000 the hinterland of Copenhagen has increased to form a labour pool of 1.8 million people, making it the largest labour pool in the Nordic countries.
